Last long weekend, my big family decided to have a new routine activity, cross country bike trip. They called themself "Goweser Team" a.k.a cyclist and all of the team members are man. My dad, my brothers & husband also participated and all of my uncles were super excited. They started the trip from my house to Puncak (route Rindu Alam - Gadok, +/- 40 km biking up & down the hills, and very heavy field for the first timer, such as big rocks and high cliff).

Well for me taking pictures about the preparation was fun (from 5.30 in the morning until 6 am), because mostly they never biked this far. I hope next trip, all the women can join for a lil picnic while waiting for their husbands.

PS: Testing the new camera with f1/4 fix lens.

Carita Beach

Carita is located in Banten, around 4 hours from Jakarta. The beach is not as good as Bali or Lombok, but this got me reminiscing about my childhood memories. When I was a kid, most Jakartans family spent their summer vacation here (or Anyer), especially circa 1990 to 2000. Well maybe because it's the nearest one from Jakarta. Nowadays Carita is no longer the 'it' beach for vacation. Since Carita is part of Banten (not West Java anymore) the province doesn't provide good infrastructure and the road was terrible, it's bumpy all the way.

Well last month, I went there for 3 days and 2 nights trip along with my husband, Hanna and Arif. The private villa was awesome, and yes we got our own swimming pool, so no need to worry if somebody is trying to ruin our holiday. Anyway it was my trip during pregnancy, hope our baby likes it.

I Miss Blogging

Somehow since I became a housewife, my life's been busier than usual. I really miss blogging a lot, taking daily picture and stuffs like that. Lately I made a new layout for Hijab Scarf's site, had a lil vacation and busy doing work with clients, plus promoting Casa Elana. Huhu I wish I had more time for updating my photography blog, and I don't know why I'd prefer writing a long note about pregnancy than using my camera. I guess during pregnancy this blog will be temporarily postponed because sharing story about baby stuffs is more fun, feel free to jump in at anytime with questions here at the-alvianto.com and I'll see you soon. Finally I finished the website, it is a temporary one, because we're planning to hire a real web developer to make a flash website or maybe who knows we'll make an online store layout. Last Sunday, me and hubby went to Bundaran HI on car-free day for the very first time. I kinda shocked when I saw lots of people were out cycling that day (it's like living inside an ants colony, thousands of people flooded the street). Well too bad I had a job to do, it was a photo session with Ms. Dhatu for Casa Elana - a clothing label by me, Mrs. Hanna and Mrs. Anne. Just a bunch of housewives trying to create a business.

Anyway here are some shots that I made and also check out the short movie (if you cannot play the video, please make sure that you have the latest Adobe Flash Player). Next time me and hubby will definitely try going to a car-free day, although we really need to wake up early like 5 in the morning and ready to go, zzzz, at 6 a.m. you need to be at the location, and I can't believe it Jakarta is very hot and humid in the morning.

He went snorkeling during his business trip to the city. He said that the sight down there were not as good as he expected, since Bunaken is very famous for it's under the sea view. It's been a long time since my last post Dec, 9 - 2010, wooops sorry. Yeah I had lots of thing going on, I resigned from my job as a motion graphic animator, focusing on Hijab Scarf blog, preparing the new clothing line and last.. having a new tittle as 'Preggy Lady'. I just now spent my days sleeping and sleeping although I had a lil problem with that, some source said that when you're pregnant it'll be harder to get a good night's sleep.

The hardest thing from my pregnancy is dealing with the nausea, my morning sickness can happen at any time of the day or night, and this unsolved problem sometimes changing my mood drastically. I am 9 weeks pregnant, so the symptom is still happening until the end of my first trimester (around 3 more weeks).

Anyway there is still a lot of work to do, I still have lots of photo need to be publish but it is so hard to start a new post when my mood keeps changing all the time, but I hope I'll get better soon, and I can't hardly wait for the next appointment with my obgyn, hope my soon to be baby is doing fine and no more miscarriage like last year.

Being a housewife? Errr really? Well I've been thinking about it for the past 3 months and my decision remains the same. For some reason I chose this, although it's gonna be hard leaving my job but I feel like I had to do it. For almost 4 years in here; the salary, the job, the office, the place, the computer, the facility, the people and all the lifes has been treating me good. In the end I will lose all of them but being a housewife is another way to achieve my goals and achieve passionate purpose such as enhance HijabScarf's brand, which has been in my list 'things to do before 30'. Here goes I guess. Bismillah...

Pasar Seni ITB 10.10.10

It makes me proud to be the alumni of Arts and Design Faculty, Institut Teknologi Bandung, not because of people said it's a prestigious college (I don't really care about those Ganesha thingy, because it doesn't really affect my job), but I am proud to be part of it as a student who witnessed all of the kewl events that happened during my campus time. Everything was unforgetable in those days.

We had Fancy Night (3 times a year), when everyone made their own homemade costume to appreciate the seniors who graduated, art and design exhebitions, plays, and lots of other events that involved creativity, so for me college years was totally awesome. By the way last 10.10.2010 Art and Design's students made their big event, Pasar Seni ITB 2010 (”pasar seni” = art market), it is is a 4 to 5-yearly event. I remembered the last time Pasar Seni ITB were held in 2006-the year I graduated. The event itself was beyond my expectations, but too bad this year I couldn't make it because I had to work on that day.

The main idea of Pasar Seni is to facilitate interactions between artists and public and it has been entertaining the visitors with pretty different performances. Most of them are unique and only happened once in your life. For those who haven't seen it, you can watch it on the second video. The first video is about Pasar Seni 2010. Enjoy.

October Has Been A Busy Month

I kindly ask, dear reader please respect my decision about what I'm gonna post in this blog. This is my personal blog about photography, not a fashion blog like HijabScarf. Some people ask me how do I wrap my hijab, well it's not that I didn't want to share it with you guys but lately I've been super busy with my work in a company (yes I am a full time worker, and I need to work hard for that, also this has been the hardest week, my auntie and grandma just passed away), so on October I haven't had a chance to post about that for HijabScarf (a.k.a blogging). I was pretty shocked, I didn't understand how come someone who didn't know me at all said that I'm "BELAGU"? (by the way are you cowards that got no guts to use your name on the Cbox?).

You can ask me anything from camera, lens or hijab but I'm not a super women who can give you the answer to everything. So please, you can think of something nice to say about your comments by not saying that I am BELAGU? (just because I can not post my hijab tutorial??? oh so childish, get a life). And the answer to my camera & lens is also in this blog, I made a long review about my camera and the lens, try scrolling down to see the old post, ok :)

I guess I am very mad when I wrote this. But those people though, they didn't care about my hectic life. Sigh!

Stop Blurring The Watermark

I have been a victim of "cocospearls.blogspot.com", she posted 12 pictures without my permission. It is extremely rude and it pisses me off. I took those pictures personally when I attended the fashion show and I spent 2 days editing the photos special for HijabScarf. When I found out she posted without any link to HijabScarf and BLURRED the HijabScarf's logo, I immediately sent her comment, asking why she did that.

My suggestion is please stop posting images by blurring the watermark. It's illegal.

PS : Thank you Filiz for the apology message, you can use images as much as you want, but you have to put the link and keep the original watermark :)

I always interested in photography and I guess it runs in my family, from grandpa to dad. Now my brother and I noticed that photography is a part of our life. These three photos of my grandma's Eurotrip were found in an old photo album that belonged to my grandpa. Lots of great pictures in that album, I almost cried when I found all those vintage photos, never imagine that my grandpa likes snapping pictures and capturing memories of grandma. Maybe it's the same thing I did to my husband now :)

Adding Warmth & Color To Skin

This is an example that I made to show you, how color can give you an instant effect to close up photo. Try to add a simple change in shade and tone. It's interesting to see the results, because the picture now looks brighter. My tips, also try adding highlights around the sides of face because it will help add visual volume. Last, remember don't be afraid adding purple, blue or even yellow, all those colors make a dramatic difference to the color of the skin. Try it.

How to get there from Jakarta?

By air, Garuda Indonesia (GA 431 and GA 432, Cengkareng - Mataram, around 3 hours), we used this airline and were very pleased. Because of heavy rains at the Jakarta airport last Friday, all flights got delayed, but it was only for 30 minutes, thanks to Garuda (Lion Air had a very long delayed).

After that you need to arrange a car and driver to meet you at the arrivals terminal and take you 45-60 minutes ride to Senggigi, via coastal road to Teluk Nara (too bad we arrived at 11.00 PM so actually there's nothing to see) or via the Monkey Forest road (you can see lot's of monkey on the road, finally there's something we can see on our ride back to the airport).

When you arrive at a small secluded bay, there will be a speedboat that take you to any of the three Gili islands. Don't forget to ask, if there's any speedboat facility offered by the villa. Estimated time at the sea to Gili Trawangan is around 10 minutes.

Wait, the ride is not over yet. As soon as you arrived at Gili island, you must use “Cidomo", Cikat Dokar Motor (vehicle using horse power) to get around locally and reach the villa. It's a bumpy road so you need to be careful and hold on tight.

Finally we arrived at the villa and stayed at "Grasia Lombok". The room was big enough for 4 of us, and the snorkeling sites infront of the villa was spectacular. Check the website www.villagrasia-lombok.com.

What are the activities you can do at Gili Trawangan?

What we did was Scuba Diving (15 metres) with beautiful corals. It was my first time (with my 3 friends, Nami, Pipit and Emma), all of us were nervous about the dive, my friend Rani already got a diving license, for Hanna and Canti this is the 2nd & 3rd times diving.

The first time I went down with the instructor I got panicked and my friends said my movement down there was EPIC! haha, I had no idea how to breathe using oxygen cylinders, suddenly I had that feeling "I don't wanna try diving anymore". But then after lunch-the second try diving, everything went well. I got a chance to see turtles and yess I had a great diving experience. The dive sites were awesome!!

On the third day, we went Snorkeling off the beach in front of our villa. Thanks to Panasonic underwater camera, I had lots of under the sea picture. We went snorkeling twice and I got really tired after that. Ow I almost forgot, we also had HijabScarf photo session :)

And I'm sorry I had to click "Ignore" button for almost all of the request. I didn't mean to be rude and arrogant, but my Facebook account is quite a private one *you can't even find my name on the search button.

Lens Comparison

I am a bit confused in choosing a new lens, I've been googling about the 50 mm lens all day. This is the result (hopefully the info might help you, and this is for Nikon user).

FIRST, why 50 mm lens?
Because 50mm "normal" lens is the first lens most people acquired with their cameras.
This lens is called a "normal" or "standard" lens because the way it renders perspective closely matches that of the human eye. Also the lens usually have a smooth bokeh. But in other hand The 50mm lens is just that: 50mm. A prime lens does not zoom in or out, "You must get closer to or further away from your subject to change your framing with a prime lens".

SECOND, there is the big difference between AFD and AFS.
AFD will be cheaper since it has no internal focusing.
AFS mean the lens is equipped with a silent wave motor for fast autofocus operation.
Nikon lenses that are not AFS are focused by a motor in the camera body.

THIRD, this is a tough decision to make because both lens are 2 equally good options.

Okay the first one is Nikon Lens AF-S 50mm F1.4 G
The lens is expensive around IDR 4.500.000 but recommended by most photographer forum.

Pros :

AF-S AF-S AF-S (very fast focus, internal focus, and very silent)
M/A mode (manual focus override available on autofocus mode)
Very fast lens (f/1.4) and sharp pictures

Cons :

Being a G lens (no aperture ring available), this lens will not work on manual focus camera where you need to set the aperture from the lens)
Price is a bit on the high range for a prime lens
No VR. As VR will be useful for taking handheld shots on low light (especially if the object is somewhat static or if the photographer doesn't have steady hands when taking photograph)

The other one is Nikon Lens AF 50mm F1.8 D
A whole lot cheaper only IDR 1.400.000 but I have to switch to manual focus,
because it is not an AFS type.

Pros :

Very fast (f/1.8)
Very sharp pictures (especially when stopped down to f/2.2, f/2.5 or more.)
Fast autofocus
Inexpensive

Cons :

Autofocus issue on some situations
Autofocus is not the most silent but very reasonable
Plasticy build
Autofocus does not work with D40, D40x, D60 and D5000. The newer 50mm f/1.4G AF-S lens or 35mm f/1.8G AF-S lens will autofocus with those cameras.

Both lenses :

Being prime lens, you need to move your feet a lot to adjust/compose
Great for sport/action photography, indoor, low light situation and portrait
Bokeh is almost as good as many expensive Nikon tele-lens
Perfect for wedding photography (or low light with no-flash event). However, also check out the following lens for wedding photography (17-35mm f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, 17-55mm f/2.8, 28-70mm f/2.8 or the other two 50mm nikon prime lenses).

Now I had no idea, which one should I choose.
Number 1 is too expensive for my first lens but the result is great and can use autofocus.
Number 2 is cheap but not as good as number 1.

Current weather in Jakarta is raining all day, the situation makes me feel gloomy and I found a perfect song for today, "Bruce Springsteen - Secret Garden". I have been listening the song like over 30-40 times today. I was wondering about "Secret Garden" because the last time I listened was almost 2 years ago. So here what I found, some facts about Bruce's song.

- The song was written around early 1994 and recorded with the E Street Band for the Bruce
Springsteen Greatest Hits album in 1995.
- This is a song Bruce's had for a year, and again it was a song that he recorded as part of a solo project.
- Bruce said that Secret Garden "was darkly erotic and centered around the mysteries that remains between partners, even the closest of relationships."
- The song also became a huge international hit when it was featured as the love theme for Cameron Crowe's 1996 film Jerry Maguire.

It has been a great year since I made fromfifi.blogspot.com. After I got married I decided to create a new blog, especially photoblog about my life as a wife to Mr. Bobs. I was the icon for Monika Jufri's new collection, but taking pictures on the front row seat was better than walking on stage. When I got the invitation my face was on the cover, but my mom didn't recognize me at all, because I looked different, lol (thanks to the photographer).

For me the fashion show had made me believe in my passion, I want to be a fashion designer. Soon I'll take fashion design courses during September or October, well wish me luck.

Phew, What A Busy Week

A lot of things going on this week (mostly office stuff), so to all the readers I'm sorry I can't post pics and blabs in the near future. Blogging and photography are definitely some of the ways I spend my spare time, but now I really don't have that little time, to do stuff like this (err.. writing a short note?). Also I got a small problem with my right eye, due to the dirty contact lens, now I have to wear glasses daily, uh I hate it. Anyway, I put new widget here, yup it's a voting box, feel free to choose which one do you like from my photos. Well that's it, then. See you next week (I guess), I'll post my wedding photos, because July is our anniversary (one year of a wonderful marriage has passed so fast, why does good time flies like a rocket? Ricoh F-3 is the first member in our family, she is absolutely gorgeous. The camera was given by my father as a birthday gift for my mom. He gave it when he was still dating with her and 3 years later they got married. Now it is almost 30 years old but still look great and work just fine with films. My father still remember the price, it was IDR 34.000 in 1981 and I still remember the very first time I tried it. Thanks to Ricoh, now I had a deep emotional connection with photography.

About a week ago, I'm itching to try out Poudre Compact Éclat et Matité Matt Pressed Powder. I'm not using this for daily wear, because it doesn't matched my skin tone perfectly. I bought it because I'm collecting compact powder. Anyway I much prefer Dior than this. The texture doesn't seem to work with my oily skin type and the powder puff must be store outside the packaging, which I think what a weird compact powder. It is less than IDR 500k although more expensive than their price on website, but around 100k cheaper if you compare with the other type (which you can put the puff applicator inside plus with foundation).

It was my first time trying Abuba. Juicy and biggg, although not that delicious like most people told me, but I think it's okay. Anyway they serve from the cheapest local meat to wagyu beef. The weirdest thing from this resto is their interior. I went to Abuba Fatmawati, they devided into two area, front interior was great, sophisticated and well designed, but when you take a look inside the back area, it was like a cheap resto with ceramic wall. It's not fair for the customer.

Last week, I had dinner at Chowking (one of my fave fast food), they serve healthy fast food, yet also delicious and cheap. I was wondering when I ordered Halo-Halo Ice, why do they call it Halo-Halo? I mean I thought Halo is Hello, but I guess I was wrong. So here is the source I've found.

From Wikipedia :
"Halo-halo (from Tagalog word halò, "mix") is a popular Filipino dessert that is a mixture of shaved ice and milk to which are added various boiled sweet beans and fruits, and served cold in a tall glass or bowl.

In terms of arrangement, most of the ingredients (fruits, beans, and other sweets) are first placed inside the tall glass, followed by the shaved ice. This is then sprinkled with sugar, and topped with either (or a combination of) leche flan, ube halaya, or ice cream. Condensed or evaporated milk is poured into the mixture upon serving."

Now I get it why the ice not named as Hi, because actually Halo is not Hello :p
